Brundage Mountain Resort’s expansive upgrade plan is well underway.
Last fall, BoiseDev reported that Brundage was planning to make several major upgrades over the next decade. The resort now says it plans to invest between $25 to $30 million across the next two to three years. This includes replacing the Centennial Triple Chair with a high-speed quad.
The new quad will be installed in time for the start of the 2023-24 winter season. The Dopplmayr 4CLD detachable quad will have a vertical rise of 1,616 feet and will transport riders from the base to the top terminal in a six-minute trip. The existing Centennial Chairlift was built in 1990 and had a 14-minute ride time. The new Centennial Express will shave the ride time down by eight minutes. It will also increase uphill capacity from 1,300 people per hour to 1,800 per hour.
“Upgrading the Centennial lift to a high-speed quad does more than just cut down the ride time,” Brundage Mountain General Manager, Ken Rider said. “The loading experience will be so much smoother–especially for families–which will make some of our best terrain infinitely more accessible.” Improving busy days
Rider added how important this upgrade is for busy days on the mountain.
“Having two high-speed quads in the base area gives us more flexibility and redundancy for moving people up the mountain, which is especially important on busy days and holidays, and during challenging weather conditions,” Rider said.
Brundage was acquired by a group of Idaho-based owners in 2020. That is when the process to upgrade the lift began to take off after originally being discussed in the early 2000s.
“When the new ownership group formed in November 2020, we took a long, hard look at the immediate and future needs of our beloved Brundage Mountain,” Brundage Mountain President, Bob Looper said. “Our priority is to maintain the low-key character of Brundage while building toward a sustainable future. Keeping lift lines to a minimum and keeping slopes uncrowded is a top priority, and upgrading the Centennial lift is a key first step in improving and expanding our lift infrastructure.”
A lot is happening on the mountain. Along with the new high-speed quad, construction of a new ski patrol facility and upgrades to the Ski and Ride School are underway. New employee housing is scheduled to be built this summer and construction of the Mountain Adventure Center at the new day lodge will begin this fall.
