The entrepreneurs have had the advice of the infectious, emergency and emergency teams of the Donostia University Hospital to develop the product and with the support of the BioDonostia Health Research Institute. The project to develop this bubble, which is called BapoBap, has aroused the interest of various economic agents from the beginning, such as Bic Berrilan and Elkargi, who have supported the 'start up'.In fact, hand in hand with the reciprocal guarantee company and with the Basque Government, they aspire to raise funds from the 'Next Generation'.“We are going to see where it fits in to be able to achieve that part of financing,” they say, “since we are three entrepreneurs over 45 years old.”Kike is a concept designer, David is a technical engineer and Joaquín is a commercial director.Three entrepreneurs who have joined their paths in this project. The BapoBap is the first portable isolation bubble that has Type 1 medical material approval (defence of health workers) by the Spanish Medicines Agency. They have been incorporated into the Basque Medical Cluster. In addition, due to its special characteristics, it has obtained a worldwide patent. They are in the process of commercialization. They have distributors in Spain, as well as in Latin America, in the Czech Republic and in the Persian Gulf, among other areas. So far they have sold ten units to distributors and another two to Hospital La Paz in Madrid, in addition to giving one to Open Arms. But they already have a pre-agreement with a country in the Persian Gulf to supply 1,250 units between this year and the next.At the moment they are producing the units in Gijón, although they also have the possibility of doing so in Barcelona in two workshops that manufacture maritime buoys, an area that Kike knows well since he was dedicated, among other things, to floating advertising, designing buoys for regattas in the ACT league or the Volvo Ocean Race.«These are very particular buoys, watertight, with zippers. With that idea and the covid I started thinking about this project.I had the conceptual part but I lacked the technical part –air filtering, tracks, approvals...–.David entered this sphere developing technical solutions”, says Kike.BapoBap Isolation unit for patients with infectious diseases, burns, chemical poisoning or patients in a state of immunosuppression due to medical treatments.Portable It is multipositional, reusable and portable. It is carried in a backpack whose total weight is 7 kg;the bubble without tools weighs between three and four kilos. It has an inflator-battery, with a range of 10 hours. It is floatable and the patient can be moved in a wheelchair.Orders They have supplied two units to Hospital La Paz, in Madrid; They have given a unit to Open Arms and have distributors in various parts of the world. The product has a worldwide patent.Production They plan to build a production plant in Oarsoaldea, facilitating the employment of people from the environment and pulling local suppliers. An agreement with both plants will allow them to produce 2,500 units a year. But his intention is to be able to establish his own production center here."We have an agreement with those two centers so that they come here to prepare equipment."It would be a component manufacturing unit, which are biodegradable, high-frequency welding. All joints are plastic, they explain.Until now, the financial support received from Bic Berrilan has allowed them to launch the 'start up' phase, develop the product, obtain patents and make prototypes. The challenge now is in that own production center, which they intend to locate in Oarsoaldea, by expanding an existing pavilion.A plant that requires an investment that could combine public support through the 'Next Generation' and private investment, to which they are open.
